After my traumatic brain injury (TBI), I struggled with basic cognitive functions—learning felt impossible, focusing was a constant battle, and my memory failed me more often than not.
I was frustrated and lost, but over time, I uncovered one critical truth: managing stress was the key to unlocking my brain’s ability to heal.
Chronic stress intensifies TBI symptoms like fatigue, mood swings, and persistent brain fog. To combat this, I started practicing simple but powerful techniques that rebalanced my nervous system.
Box breathing became my daily anchor—inhaling for 4 seconds, holding for 4, exhaling for 4, and holding again for 4. I also discovered the 4-7-8 breathing method, a calming pattern that slows the heart rate and eases the mind.
But healing goes beyond just breath. I leaned into mindfulness, meditation, and even something as simple as a walk in nature or meaningful conversations with loved ones.
These practices helped regulate my emotional state and allowed my brain to function more clearly.
